Rainy Day Activities for Kids
A rainy day can be a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your kids. Here are some fun activities to do together to fight the boredom (and also keep you sane)!
Make a Fort.
First, get out the blankets and pillows and make a fort when it’s not as fun to play outside! This can be a fun rainy day activity for the whole family. Once you’ve built your fort, you can read books, play games, or watch movies inside. Next, incorporate an escape room like the camping trip escape room or the lost campsite escape room, and make your fort into an indoor campsite. Overall, escape rooms bring out codebreaking and puzzles and are simply print and go. Kids visit 10 stations and have hint cards that help them solve puzzles and escape!
Create homemade pizzas.
Homemade pizzas are a rainy day meal that the whole family can enjoy. First, let everyone choose their own toppings and create their own personal pizzas. Next, bake the pizzas and start setting up an easy activity, an escape room! Play the pizza pizzaz escape room game before or after your yummy meal! Like the other escape rooms, this one comes with everything you need to play.

Bake cookies or cupcakes.
Next, baking is another one of my favorite things to do on a rainy day, and it’s a delicious way to pass the time. First, let your kids help measure the ingredients and mix everything together. Next, they’ll love decorating their own rainy day cookies or cupcakes too. While eating your cupcakes, go on the cupcake contest scavenger hunt. This is a fun game where your kids solve 14 riddles that lead to clues. The best part is, it’s just print and play!
Play indoor mini golf.
Set up indoor golf around your house on your next rainy day. Use any object as a “golf club” and set up “holes” using things like laundry baskets, buckets, or even Solo cups. This is a great opportunity to get creative and have some fun.
After your mini golf game, try the golf games escape room for some critical thinking and puzzle solving. Your kids can play in teams, alone, or as a whole family.
Do a science experiment.
Finally, science experiments are always a hit with kids. Of course, it doesn't hurt to learn on their rainy day! There are tons of fun and easy experiments that you can do with everyday household items.
One fun experiment is the rainbow in a jar experiment. You’ll need a jar, milk, food coloring, and dish soap. Add a few drops of food coloring to the milk and swirl it around. Then, add a drop of dish soap to the center of the jar and watch the colors explode in a rainbow! Since it's a rainy day, you may even see a rainbow outside after the storm.
After your science experiment, play the Stolen Science Project Murder Mystery Game. This is totally PG and family-friendly. The murder mystery even comes with props to get you started! Overall, it's a fun way to spend a rainy day with family.
Here’s how it works:
First, your kids read a “Top Secret Case File”. Next, they look for puzzle clues and decode the answers to eliminate suspects. Finally, the lead detectives have about an hour to solve the case. Again, it’s just print and play. Just hide the puzzles to begin. Generally, a little bit of a challenge helps kids stay engaged and have even more fun.
Have an indoor picnic.
Spread out a picnic blanket and bring out your favorite picnic basket. Eat your picnic right on the living floor and stay indoors for a rainy day picnic. Finally, play the summer picnic escape room with your family. Solve the puzzles and chow down on yummy picnic food while staying dry indoors.
Overall, rainy days can be so boring! However, with these fun games and things to do on a rainy day, I am looking for clouds. Your kids will have so much fun on the next rainy day with these rainy day activities. Check out all the escape rooms, murder mysteries, and scavenger hunts to do on a rainy day with your family. Which game will you try on your next rainy day?
