Each puzzle station has its own decoder and three questions per puzzle. Hint cards are included in case you need them.

Some stations may be trickier than others so we’ve included hint cards to help solve each puzzle. Play time varies depending on how large of a group is playing.
How long does this activity take to complete?
It really depends on a lot of things. Estimated completion time is 30-60 minutes but is also based on the kids’ puzzle solving experience, decoding skills, critical thinking skills, age and group size. The first time always takes much longer than the next since it is the first time they are seeing these types of puzzles. Once they understand how to decode the puzzles, the next time you choose to do an activity like this goes much quicker.
How many kids can play at once?
As many as you want! Personally, I prefer to let them work on their own or with a partner, however, you can play in small teams as well! If you are working in small teams, the completion time will be much quicker.
How do I set up the activity?
To set-up the puzzles, you simply need to print, hang and play! It’s that easy! Everything you need is included in your download. You will need to hang the six printed decoders around the house. (I like to hide mine, so they really have to search for them!)
Do I need locks, envelopes or special equipment?
NOT AT ALL! This was created to make your life easier! You don’t need any locks, envelopes or special equipment. No silly envelopes to stuff! No odd shapes to cut out!
What if the kids get stuck on one of the decoders?
First off, let them think for a bit! This is where critical thinking skills come in. If you have a kid truly struggling, show them the Hint Card for that puzzle. This will provide them with directions for each decoder. Please do NOT hang the Hint Cards up or hand them out to all kids…that takes away the element of fun and that special “AHA” moment.
Where do kids start?
It does NOT matter the order in which they visit each puzzle decoder. Just be sure to remind the kids to answer the question next to the correct question on the recording sheet.
Who can play the game?
We recommend ages 8+. However, younger kids can definitely play if they have help from an adult or older kid.
How much space do I need?
That’s up to you! You can do the whole experience at the dining room table, spread out on the floor or even on the couch if you wanted. You can also spread the puzzles out throughout the house and turn it into a scavenger hunt if you so choose.
